How To Create a Surf Theme Mitzvah!

Picking a theme for your child’s mitzvah or sweet sixteen is a job unto itself, let’s be honest! But bringing the theme together is where many get lost and must bring in the experts. Our team is notorious for our attention to detail: finding unique elements that not only bring the vision together but truly takes it to the next level. Here we explain how we created a “Surf’s Up” theme for a Bar Mitzvah, and how to pull the look together… as always, it’s all in the details.

Floral Design: The best way to honor a theme is in the décor. We used manzanita branches to bring in the driftwood look, clean modern phalaenopsis orchids to bring up the tropical Hawaii vibes, and white and teal drapery to feel like ocean waves.

Color: This event was at Lavan in Hollywood, an all-white space which really allows us to start with a clean slate. We kept the color scheme to aqua and white for a clean pop reminiscent of the ocean. We brought the color scheme throughout the space with linens from Over the Top, custom cushions from Etsy, and we even colored the water for the floating candles.

Surprise elements: We went out of our way to find ‘surprise & delight’ elements like cute fish-shaped vases for the cocktail tables in the “Hang 10” lounge area, which we hand painted in the aqua shade to give the continuity that truly brings the look together. We also brought in teal swimming goggles as accents for some added playfulness in the lounge.

Party Favors: We created a gift bar where the guests had the choice of favors included customized goggles, beach towels, flip-flops, travel mugs to take home this memorable night. So fun!
